Born in the town of Gore in 1952, National Party member, Jenny Shipley was the first female Prime Minister of New Zealand, from 1997-1999, retiring from politics in 2001. Martin Ball is a renowned for his hyper-realist, large-scale portraits, as they are intensely detailed, consistently with the style of realism. Roger Bridge commissioned Ball to paint Jenny Shipley upon her retirement.
