Cutlery set, Bone-handled silver

An oak canteen of fine silver cutlery made by Viners Ltd. of Sheffield. It comprises six bone-handled dinner knives, six bone-handled butter knives, six dinner forks, six salad forks, six teaspoons, six dessert spoons, six soup spoons, one tablespoon, one bone-handled carving knife, a bone-handled fork and steel, and two bone-handled salad servers. The knives bear the hallmark: 'BY APPOINTMENT TO THE LATE KING GEORGE V'. According to the company's website Viners Ltd. was issued with a Royal Warrant as Cutlers and Silversmiths to King George V in 1930. The set was kindly donated by Mrs Pat Turnbull, it belonged to Pat and her husband Derek who farmed 'Sherwood' near Tussock Creek. Derek was a champion runner throughout his life. At Masters level he won 28 gold medals at world veteran track and field championships and his achievements saw him dubbed the 'Fastest old man in the world'.
