3 raupo poi of various sizes, which belonged to Robert ( Bob) Ross from Kaiwaka. Circa 1875. From the Stanley Alexander Ross Collection. These genuine old raupo poi were gifted to Robert (Bob) Ross c1875 by Maori folk from Oruawharo. Robert grew up in that vicinity and spoke their language fluently. Scottish born, he arrived in NZ as a child who became a farmer and renowned cattle drover. He purchased Topuni land from an Oruawharo chief, and enjoyed a lasting friendship with him and his people.
