Trench art, Serviette ring

Shared by
Te Hikoi Museum

A white metal serviette ring with a bronze insert. A word, possibly 'Love' or Lovs' is engraved on the insert. It is a large diameter serviette ring and is believed to have been made as trench art. 'Trench art' is used to describe objects made from the debris and by-products of modern warfare by servicemen passing the time when not on the frontline. It is usually associated with World War One, however, similar items have been produced in other conflicts.
