Shared by
New Zealand Maritime Museum Hui Te Ananui a Tangaroa

Non-matching pair of stirrup irons; fillis style, with a long oval base bisected lengthwise by a central bar. Signs of use-wear. One stirrup is smaller than the other, but similar in style. Tarnished, with corrosion and marine accretions. One of a collection of domestic items salvaged in the 1970s from the SS MAORI which ship wrecked in 1909 off the coast of Cape Town, South Africa.
