Victorian Era Linoleum Flooring

Victorian Era linoleum flooring in the Kitchen of Brain-Watkins House Museum. "This is original ca 1900 linoleum and fragile. There are two or more types/layers and they must be protected and well documented such as with scaled images, drawings/tracings of pattern, material/analysis test (composition of materials allows dating) etc. The red runner carpet works as immediate and interim protection but will not protect from wear through cleaning by mop or vacuum cleaner under the table and all other areas. The furniture displayed on top of the linoleum will also damage the surfaces unless the feet are padded which only some are. The little rug covering a corner may be original to the house and if that is the case it should not be used in a high traffic area. Consult specialist conservator." - Detlef Klein (2023).
