hand woven twill in hand spun natural coloured fleece and plant dyes. Artist Annie Mackenzie is weaving her own path in contemporary New Zealand art. As one of the only artists working in the historically rich medium of hand woven fabrics, her practice is at once familiar and completely new. Formally, this is a show with two distinct origins: the works of Edith Collier and Joanna Margaret Paul; and photographs taken for promotional purposes at the Wanganui Woollen Mills, now found in the Whanganui Regional Museum archives. In response to these influences, Annie has employed traditional techniques with her loom in cotton, linen, silk and wool to create intricate and beautifully entwined works, which can best be compared to paintings in their use of blended colour and rich texture. On long term loan to Te Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Gallery. Collection of the artist
