A 400 yard oil slick was discharged from a freighter outside the Port of Napier. Some of the oil pollution reached Westshore beach. The launchmaster, Mr M. Trow, is shown checking the build-up of oil against the Napier Harbour Board's tug Tautare while Mr E. Cullen sprays the oil with detergent.
