This writing desk is made from kauri wood. Each of the legs is patterned and ends with porcelain floor castors. There is a wooden footrest with carving and a finial. On the front of the desk there is a decorative inset below the desk top. On the desk top there are two decorative drawers with brass handles. Between the drawers is a movable, curved, cover with two, wooden handles(knobs).The cover protects six compartments used for inks, paper, pens etc. There is an insert of black leather in the middle of the desk top. The desk is in excellent condition. The donor obtained this item from an antique shop in Orewa in 1991.
