Egyptian red ware jar

Shared by
UC Teece Museum of Classical Antiquities

This polished red ware jar has an elliptical shape. A small raised neck flares to a circular mouth with a rounded rim. The body tapers inwards towards the rounded bottom of the vessel. The lack of a flat base on the vessel suggests it would have required a stand, or have had to be supported in some way to remain upright. Vessels of this type are characteristic of the pre-dynastic period in Eg... [Accession number: 231.22.16]
