1958 Dr Vivian Fuchs & George Lowe Antarctica B&W Press Photograph. The photo shows Dr Fuchs in the foreground and famous New Zealand photographer George Lowe with his array of cameras just behind. George Lowe was the official photographer for this expedition. The Trans Antarctic Expedition (TAE) was a Commonwealth sponsored expedition which aimed to complete the first crossing of Antarctica and carry out scientific surveys. The TAE consisted of two teams: The Crossing Party, led by British explorer, Dr Vivian Fuchs The Ross Sea Party, led by New Zealand explorer, Edmund Hillary
