Reginald MacKinnon was a runholder in the district, owning the Mt. Linton Station from 1878 to 1895, and also Wairaki Station for some time. Many and great were the difficulties that McKinnon experienced on these (at the time), remote properties, including the great snow arriving the same year that he did, in 1878. After losing his house on the station to fire in 1894, MacKinnon ended up moving...
