In the two years after the first Covid-19 lockdown in Aotearoa in March 2020, pandemic home-crafting took off in a big way as people faced long periods of isolation at home and in managed isolation facilities.

Overnight, we turned into a nation of crafters picking up long-forgotten skills in knitting, paper mache, embroidery and found-object art. Covid-free awards, dioramas and knitted fencepost decorations were created in the bedrooms, living rooms and managed isolation facilities throughout the nation.

In this set, I have spotlighted some of the playful craft pieces that have been collected by galleries and museums across the country.
