The Art Museum opened in June 1996 in an historic Arts and Crafts building in beautiful Cafler Park adjacent to the cultural amenities of Forum North Theatre and the Conservatory and Fernery. In September 2011 the art museum moved to their new premisies at Te manawa _ The hub the beautiful Towm basin Dent St.m, Whangarei and our name changed to Whanagrei Art museum Te Manawa Toi.
The Whangarei art Museum is the public gallery of the Whangarei city and district and custodian of the extensive city historic, modern and contempoary art collection and also includes rare historic paintings from the Arboretum collection and also holds the Te Waka - Drummond photographic collection.
The Museum is also the venue for national touring exhibitions and internally curated exhibitions and public programmes and changes exhibition every 8 weeks approximetly.
