The National Museum of the Royal New Zealand Navy - Te Waka Huia O Te Taua Moana O Aotearoa at Torpedo Bay at Te Hau Kapua - Torpedo Bay, Devonport is the kaitiaki (guardian) of the Navy's memories.
The Navy Museum site at Te Hau Kapua - Torpedo Bay is of exceptional heritage significance having been continuously occupied by New Zealand military forces since 1880. It was a key part of Auckland’s early defence system and is now the most substantial and intact 19th century mining base to survive in New Zealand.
The Navy Museum galleries tell the stories of the men and women who have - and continue to serve Aotearoa New Zealand on the ocean waves. An on-site children's playground and cafe - Torpedo Bay Cafe offers spectacular harbour views, great coffee and a range of delicious menu items.
