Visit Tūhura, New Zealand’s only fully interactive science centre – try out 45 hands-on exhibits, be awed in the planetarium, use laser beams to explore in the Beautiful Science Gallery and charmed by the butterflies in the Tropical Forest.
Since 1868, the Otago Museum has been sharing its world-class collection of over 1.5 million objects, telling stories of nature, culture and science from Otago, Aotearoa New Zealand and the world.
The Museum is one of Dunedin’s most-visited cultural institutions, offering a place to learn, explore and engage with rare and beautiful objects while continuing its proud history of research and education.
With seven free galleries, there is plenty of space to explore at your leisure, or take one of our guided tours. There are also regular exhibitions and many public events.
The Museum Café caters for all, with vegan food as well as a range of baked treats and heartier meals – and, of course, great coffee and free wifi. Browse the Museum Shop for a memento of your visit, such as beautiful jewellery crafted locally from the wings of our butterflies when they reach the end of their life cycle.
Entry to the galleries is free with donations gratefully received. Entry to Tūhura is by admission – tickets available from the Museum Shop.
